Things to remember when traveling abroad for treatment

Before you pack your bags for your treatment abroad, ensure that you have taken care of the following things:

  • Passport and visas - Confirm beforehand if a visa is required for entering the selected country. Also ensure that your passport is valid. Take some extra photocopies of your documents and don't put them in your hand luggage.
  • Vaccinations - Check with your physician if you need any vaccinations for where you are going.
  • Contact details - Ensure you carry the contact details of the person you would want to be contacted in case of an emergency.
  • Local currency - You should carry a small amount of local currency with you.
  • Local customs and practices - Check out local customs and practices to avoid problems while travelling. For instance, sunbathing topless in a Muslim country can put you into trouble.
  • Contact your card issuer - Before you leave, tell your card issuer that you are likely to make large payment overseas. Otherwise, they may classify your transaction suspicious and block it.
  • Tourist attractions - Learn about the country you are travelling to. Make your travel itinerary in advance and do the strenuous actives before surgery.
