The doctors need to study the medical science for approximately 7 years to attain their medical degree. Moreover, if they choose to specialize in a particular medical field, they need to study for approximately 4 to 5 more years. Therefore, if you are choosing a plastic surgeon, you can be sure that he has studied medicine rigorously for at least 11 to 12 years before he was able to attain his degree.

During the first 5 years of his degree, a doctor study clinical sciences along with the basic education of becoming a doctor in the university. He needs to study both practical and theory subjects during this time. Next, he also needs to do an internship in Surgery, Medicine, GynOb, and Pediatrics. Even after studying so much, he is not yet ready to get a medical license to operate on someone. Further, he needs to be a part of social service where he will be practicing his skills. Only after successfully completing the social service can a doctor get his license to practice.

Further, a doctor can also choose to undergo post-graduation to further sharpen his skills. This usually takes 5 years and requires a bachelor’s degree in surgery. However, there are some sub specialties that do not require the 7 years degree, rather a person can complete 3 years of general surgery studies to further indulge in post graduate studies.

Some doctors also choose to travel abroad to complete their subspecialty. However, they come back to their own country and practice with the (CRMA) Costa Rican Medical Association. The Ministry of Health is responsible for hospitals safety, along with accreditation responsibility.

On the other hand, the physician accreditation responsibility lies with the College of Physician and Surgeons. Moreover, it is important for surgeons to get registered with the Costa Rica Plastic surgery Board before they start their practice.
